I’m Mad for Maisie!
A while ago, my mom handed me this little yellow, faux vintage book that I’ve come to associate, strongly, with her prefered style of reading. Some bit of period whodunit that’s never been my cup of tea. Well, here’s to you Maisie (and mom) because I was won over, after all. I hadn’t seen her around the blogging pages nor any other variation of hype so I thought that it was a little known secret until I stumbled upon this:
Oh, I’m very excited about this, yes I am! I think, also, that between French and Winspear, I have officially kicked my lifetime ban of mystery/thrillers. I even found out, the other day, that there is a complete section in the bookstore devoted just to mysteries. Who knew? My mom, apparently.
If you’d like to play or at least follow along, check out A Novel Challenge and don’t forget to visit Jacqueline Winspear’s website for more on the world of Maisie Dobbs and for a cast of continuing characters.
Oh, and here’s the schedule for discussion questions for each of the books.
January 14th – Maisie Dobbs
January 31st – Birds of a Feather
February 14th – Pardonable Lies
February 22nd – Paperback edition of The Mapping of Love and Death goes on sale
February 28th – Messenger of Truth
March 14th – An Incomplete Revenge
March 22nd – Hardcover of A Lesson in Secrets goes on sale
March 28th- Among the Mad
April 11th- The Mapping of Love and Death
April 25th – A Lesson in Secrets
I absolutely adored Maisie Dobbs, but for some reason haven’t picked up the sequels…I should get on that.
Yes! I’ve heard they just get better.
I have been meaning to read this series for ages. I haven’t signed up for the challenge because there is no way I could keep up with that schedule but the readalong has inspired me to reborrow the first book in the series. Maybe I will read it this time.
It’s a fun one for sure but I don’t think I’d have the will power to do it on my own. I’m glad I’ll have reading buddies to keep on track for it. :O)
I read the first one and liked it a lot. I will be eager to hear what everyone thinks of the sequels!
I hope you can join us on the Maisie Dobbs read-along! We’re still discussing the first book now and will discuss the second, Birds of a Feather, on Jan 31st! http://www.bookclubgirl.com/book_club_girl/2011/01/the-maisie-dobbs-read-along-begins-withmaisie-dobbs.html
