Oh, y’all, is there anything more fun than a book that begins in deception and an unique chef thirst for vengeance? Ok, maybe for nice, normal people but I’ve always had a bit of a dramatic streak when it comes to my reading choices.

At the end of the first book in the Crown of Shards series, Kill the Queen, everything was a bit of a mess. Evie finally has power after clawing her way up from a lowly mutt baker and wine tester.

She’s been hurt and oh, she’s doled put her fair share of hurt, as well. There’s been no shortage of blood spilled but it’s not over yet.

Now, as Queen Everleigh Saffira Winter Blair, Evie isn’t just out to protect her own sense of self, she’s tasked with protecting an entire kingdom as war leans on her doorstep from all around.

I’ve found myself drifting heavily toward heavy magic and royal politics in my books, lately and this second in the series certainly didn’t disappoint.

Estep writes in a brilliantly coherent way, not always the case when complex fantasy is involved. For that, I am hooked on the series and I’m super excited to see what is coming down the pipeline from her, coming up.

Thank you to TLC Book Tours for including me on this tour.
