BTT: What’s in a Name?
Lu asks
Do you have any pet that has a name inspired by your readings?
If not, what would you pick if you DID?
Do any of your friends have book-based names for their pets? (Or their children?)
You would think so but, no, my dogs are both named for athletes. Teddy is for Ted Williams and Donnie is for Donovan McNabb. And, alas, neither one of my boys was named for works of literature, either. And to be a total downer on this week’s question, no, I don’t think I can automatically pull out any friends who have used books for their naming process, either.
Back in the day, I knew a few folks my age who had literary names but they were mostly a girl named Emerson, here, or a boy with Thoreau as a middle name, there. I know that Bella and Edward and Jacob are all on the most popular baby names lists, now, but I’m not sure I count Twilight as a book. Kidding!
I think that I’d eventually like to have a dog named Dorian or maybe one named Oscar. He’d have to be a pretty witty dog, though, if he wanted to live up to Wilde’s legacy!
Oh! Hold the phone, folks, what am I thinking?! Clearly, I’m not.
My very first dog, ever, was my dad’s dog, a German shepherd named, wait for it…Heidi! So, there. If I think long enough, I usually find something to add to the discussion even if it’s after much rambling.
My favorite cousin’s dog was named Heidi, and she was a German shepard also! I have a bird named Rupert after the guy on Survivor, and for some reason, I seem to have a penchant for Russian names when it comes to pets. A cat named Astrid, another bird named Ingrid. I know. I am very weird, and have a lot of animals!
Heidi, awesome!
