Ok, I don’t think I’ve ever been this obsessed with a series. I don’t know who it was that advised me to read Jennifer L Armentrout’s Lux series first but they were so mistaken. Or maybe not. While that series was fun, it was by far the least fun of all of JLA’s series. So maybe it set me up to enjoy her other stuff more.

Anyway, all of that is water under the bridge because holy cow, y’all, her Dark Elements series is everything. If you haven’t read it, the story focuses on a subset of beings created by the angels to protect humankind from demons. They’re basically old school gargoyles but they usually walk around in human form.

They live in groups called clans and they exist in most cities around the world. They exist as sunsets of what is essentially a secret society. Our main gal, Layla, has been living with them since she was tiny, both protector and protected by the clan in the DC area.

She’s a bit of an oddball because she is half Warden and, well, here’s the awkward part: she’s also half demon. And she’s recently made some demon buddies, one who is the incredibly hot Roth (who is one of my favorite bad boys in all of literature to date. Swoon).

Without spoiling things, let’s just say that the third and final book in this section of the series ends with a major bang and I basically cried when it was over because I did, in fact, get that attached to the characters involved.

I highly recommend this series to those who love Jennifer L Armentrout and for those who haven’t discovered her, yet. Truly, you will NOT be disappointed. I promise.
