I read this for my girls’ book club, last month, and haven’t had the chance to properly review it but it needs to be talked about.

Unlike most of the book world, I didn’t get to read the author‘s first book so I was going into this one completely blind to her writing style and particular brand of magic.

I’m so glad I had the chance, though, because it was delightful.

The story fits neatly into a subset of books…about books. But while some stories about stories are rather on the nose and play it as such, Sorcery of Thorns weaves in a mystical, other worldly element to an otherwise run of the mill bookish romp.

I will say that though I enjoyed the book a great deal, it fell a little flat on the Fantasy creativity. It pulled elements from a lot of my favorites, like Sarah J Maas and Jennifer L Armentrout. The protected orphan who actually has cool abilities and fights to save stuff vine rang throughout.

Still, it was super fun and a good summer escape for those looking for something to pass the time with.
