About You, Me, and the Sea ~ Meg Donohue

May 10, 2019

• Hardcover: 368 pages
• Publisher: William Morrow (May 7, 2019)

When I read Wurthering Heights in high school, i wasn’t really sold. I know, I know. It’s a classic and it gets referenced a lot but it just didn’t speak to me the same way others claim it does for them.

I really wish that I’d had You, Me, and the Sea, back then. Not a complete mirror but rather an inspired retelling, the new story is as gripping as I was always told the old one was supposed to be.

Merrow Shawe is a tiny girl facing a heavy world, living with her farmer father, a widow, and her horrendously cruel brother, Bear. Her mother’s death is a mystery other than it has left her father penniless and sad.

She fills her days with endless fantasies and small adventures until she happens upon Amir, who has had his own share of struggles in his own life.

The two young folks fall madly in love until disaster falls ok Merrow’s life, yet again, leaving her to question everything she has come to hold so dear.

Beautifully written, You, Me, and the Sea was the perfect read to jump into the start of summer. There is drama and action and so much love and heartbreak.

I really do need to go back and reread the original, now, to see if it sits as well as this rendition, now that I’m older.

Thank you, as always, to TLC Book Tours for the review copy and don’t just take my word for it! Go check out the other tour stops and see what everyone else had to say.
