Plastic surgeons aren’t necessarily the Red Cross or anyone’s saving grace but they’re not usually accused of homicidal mania.

Dr. Henry Steadman has no reason to assume this rule has suddenly changed as he heads north from South Florida to a Doctors without Borders conference in Jacksonville. As the headlining speaker at the event, he’ll be discussing his humanitarian departure from boobs and noses, his side project of fixing cleft pallets in poverty riddled countries. He’ll probably head over to his buddy’s place for a little historically awesome Ponte Vedre golf but really, nothing too over the top.

Even he best laid plans tend to go awry as soon as they’re put within the pages of a thriller, though. Steadman’s plans unravel freakishly fast after he is roughed up at a questionable traffic stop. In the blink of an eye, the officer apprehending him is shot in a drive-by, leaving Henry as the only witness and the only suspect.

As things begin to take a very paranoid turn, the good doctor becomes convinced that he is being set up but even he has no idea why or by whom.

In a white knuckle, edge of your seat thriller, Gross takes his readers rip roaring through the streets of J-ville, down winding Georgia roads and into the creepy, soggy bottom of the deep south.

Though it was a fairly predictable little thriller, it still provided mega thrills and a whole lot of micro moments of suspense. This is definitely one for the thrill seekers and beach readers. I highly recommend chilling out on the beach, on location, in Atlantic beach as I was so happily obliged to do, while talking this one in.
