BTT: Hard (subjectively)

All other thing being equal, would you rather read a book that’s hard/challenging/rewarding or light/enjoyable/easy?

Oh, this really depends!I think I have moments when each comes in handy. I think that I probably differ a little bit from the mainstream (though I haven’t read any other answers, yet; this is based purely on assumption) in that I tend to read light books when I’m in an easy going moment with nothing else on my plate and I save the hard stuff for when I need a serious distraction. I tend to go right for the rough, tough stuff when I probably need to be giving my brain a rest simply because it gets my mind onto things other than what I’m stressing about.

Reading for stress relief is a great thing…

Yep, it all depends on the reading mood! 🙂

I think I agree that different times call for different books. When things are hard and challenging in my life, I need something a little easier and fluffy. When I am feeling stagnant and unmotivated, I go for something heavier. I think a lot depends on what is going on in my life.

I think I’m exactly the opposite — tend to go for the light and fluffy when I’m in a period of stress. But I’m definitely a “mood reader.”

I hate either-or questions. I always end up arguing for both.

It definitely depends with me, too! In the summer I’m much more into the light, chick-lit type books — “beach reads,” though I abhor that term — than this time of year, when I’m inside more and have time set aside purely for reading.

Yup, definitely depends on my mood and what else I’m juggling in life at the moment. Sometimes I’ll dip into a lighter book as a palate cleanser after a few tough reads.
