BTT: Anticipate

What’s the last book you were really EXCITED to read?

And, were you excited about it in advance? Or did the excitement bloom while you were reading it?

Are there any books you’re excited about right NOW?

Well, gosh, you know, I really can’t think of a book that I’ve anticipated reading in a while. I usually tend to look at each book as a bit of a blank slate. I tend to follow the school of subjectivity so I can’t really get excited about what other people are saying about a book before I’ve been able to read through it, myself. I dont read through many sequential books and even when I do, I don’t put much weight on the next in a series adding up to the last.

Looking back through this year, I think my favorite reads were probably The Tiger’s Wife and A Visit From the Goon Squad. Yes, I know, that’s terribly cliche since they were the Orange Prize and Pulitzer winners, respectively. No, but really, they did win these with good reason!  Oh, my, I almost forgot! I also think that The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet ranks high on my list, too. These are all pretty different but still, in the last half year, the three that rise to the top of my pile.

As far as looking forward, I don’t think I’m waiting on anything too exciting. As mentioned, I tend to meet my favorites cold and try not to attach any excitement to a book or writer before I really get into either one.

I’m am completely opposite of you, I am always checking to see when a favorite authors next book will be released. I enjoy reading other book bloggers reviews, and base some of my book buying on their reviews. Therefore my TBR pile keeps growing with a lot of books I am looking forward to reading.

I actually have books in my TBR pile that are exciting to me to read. …which is odd, because usually my TBR pile somehow becomes the kiss of death for my reading plans!

I’m a lot like you, starting out with curiosity and seeing if it leads to excitement. However, there are exceptions…

I can’t help but be excited when a new book by a loved author or series is due to come out.

I have been eagerly anticipating She Makes it Look Easy by Marybeth Whalen since last September, and just got my copy the other day. I am hurriedly reading through my current read to get to it. I am also anticipating The Remains from Tom Perotta which comes out at the end of the month.

I get really excited for books before I read them! Sometimes they live up to the hype, sometimes they don’t, but that is how I read. 🙂 Feel free to check out my BTT here.

Good Picks! I don’t see anything cliche about those choices! 🙂 I really want to read The Tiger’s Wife , but it has more to do with publicity it generated by Fowler’s rant against the book and the Orange Prize itself. Visit From the Goon Squad is in my to be read pile!

Oh … I love this question. I often get super excited about books and then find myself disappointed sometimes. The latest one I’m pumped about is “Between A Rock and A Hard Place,” which I wanted to read after I saw 127 Hours.

Oh, I definitely have a few authors that I eagerly anticipate their new releases each year or so. I enjoy Susanna Kearsley very much and I am anxiously waiting for her October release of The Rose Garden. I’m also anticipating Diana Gabaldon’s The Scottish Prisoner, which I think is coming in Nov.
