BTT: Multi-Tasking

March 10, 2011

Do you multi-task when you read? Do other things like stirring things on the stove, brushing your teeth, watching television, knitting, walking, et cetera?

Or is it just me, and you sit and do nothing but focus on what you’re reading?

(Or, if you do both, why, when, and which do you prefer?)

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response (so people don’t have to go searching for it) in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

This has always been a source of jokes and wonder in our house. My husband claims that I simply CAN not read without something else to do. I read upside down, on a swing, while walking at the mall, while eating (by myself) and any other given physical activity. Now, one might argue that I read everywhere and it’s a product of simply reading all the time, rather than having to move while I read. Who knows. Fact is, I’m mostly reading and/or moving for a good majority of my day!

Wow, I couldn’t do that. I have to have a quiet place to read or I can’t concentrate.

I can’t do anything except listen to music when I am reading! I gotta turn to Audio books! Only way to keep up with reading!

Here is my BTT: Multi-Tasking post!

That is awesome! I don’t multi-task as much as you do, but I can do it!

Wow, that has got to be a talent – to read upside down on a swing! 🙂

Here’s my Multi-Tasking (Booking Through Thursday) post!

You read upside down?!!! I do read while I eat, or eat while I read, whatever, but otherwise I don’t multitask. I want to listen to more books though, so I can optimize the time I spend doing mindless things like housework!

I love your answer. I walk around carrying my book a lot, but rarely do I actually get through many pages when I’m on the move. I love the idea of someone reading while upside down though … I have this cartoon image in my head right now.

Mostly, I need a quiet place to read.

I am totally unable to multitask when I read. I need for there to be as much silence as possible, or I get too distracted. I can’t do other things and read either, but have tried to cook and read at the same time to disastrous results. I used to be able to multitask while reading, but not any more. Once I even got into an auto accident while creeping forward at a stoplight when I was trying to drive and read. But that’s a secret, and you shouldn’t tell!

I read while I cook! Especially if I just have to keep stirring a pot or keep an eye on something. I might as well do s0mething while I wait!

I can multi-task as long as it doesn’t involve leg movement – to clumsy.

You can read upside down? How do you do that?
I multitask too, but after crashing into a few things I gave up reading and walking 😉

When I was younger, I used to do more “multi-tasking” while reading. I can still do it if I have to, but I really prefer just to do one thing at a time. And I’m pretty sure reading upside down isn’t something I’d be brave enough to try.

I love to eat when I’m reading, but that’s about it. In print or ebook form, that is. Give me an audiobook, though, and who knows what else I might be doing while I’m reading!

I never stop reading. I would read while driving if I could.
