Teaser Tuesday: Midwives ~ Chris Bohjalian

November 2, 2010

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

“Amidst my sobs and wails, people have said that I pleaded aloud, ‘Look at us! Oh, God, please, please look at us!’ and still not one of the jurors would even glance in my mother’s or my direction.” p. 5 Midwives ~ Chris Bohjalian

Oh, I have had this book on my shelf for such a long time, and often I will glance at it and wonder what awaits me when I finally dig in. From the snippet that you posted I think it will likely be an interesting read for me, and your shining a spotlight on it serves to remind me that it is still patiently awaiting my attention! Thanks!

It’s a pretty good one, although, it’s proving slightly difficult to review. I finished it, yesterday and still haven’t decided the angle I need to write it from. And, I KNOW that any drama it initially stirred up probably happened over a decade ago but I still like to take my time before reviewing “controversial” books. Let me know if you decide to read it!
