BTT: “X” Marks the…hold that thought. Where did my spot GO?

December 10, 2009

Suggested by Tammy:

What items have you ever used as a bookmark? What is the most unusual item you’ve ever used or seen used?

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response (so people don’t have to go searching for it) in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

Oh, you really don’t want to know.

Just kidding. I don’t think I’ve ever used anything so completely inappropriate that i wouldn’t share. I do read in pubic, after all.

I generally, though, don’t use bookmarks as in the kind you find at the checkout counter at your local warehouse bookstore. I tend to lose them, weekly, and to continue purchasing three-dollar pieces just to have them go missing in several days never seems to add up.

My prefered book marking tool is probably The Receipt. It’s light. It’s appropriately shaped and sized. It’s completely dispensable. Business cards also work but are harder to come by, thicker and, really, for the most part, need keeping. I do use hardcover jackets when around.

I also, on rare occasion, use the free ones from the library. I always have these grand ideas about writing all of the books I read with that marker on the back. I think my lifetime best is two.

Not just me then! Receipts are great as bookmarks! I leave bookmarks in library books quite frequently. I’ve lost lots that way!

I have a favorite bookmark but have used a receipt a few times. You’re right, it’s the perfect size and shape.

Receipts are too thin for me. I always seem to lose them inside the book and never find my place again!

Boarding passes are the best bookmarks!

I lose bookmarks too but I have become better in recent years… I don’t like using receipts because I hate it when they fall out and people can see what you’ve been buying!

Yes, why do free bookmarks seem to have the most staying power? I have several free paper bookmarks from the 80s, but I’ve lost more purchased ones than I can count. I started just keeping them in the desk drawer for fear of losing them!

I find receipts to thin to use but it seems to be a popular choice.

I never lose the free bookmarks just the ones I have purchased.
