[TSS] There And Back Again…
There is something so refreshing about coming home from vacation. Yes, you read that right. It’s not that spending endless hours on the waves, in the pool or on my bike can’t make me smile; it’s just that when all is said and done, my own bed is my own bed. I did get an incredible amount read, even though reading while on vacation with an eighteen month old socialite was near impossible.
I didn’t get everything read but did finish Prep (which was likable but somewhat disappointing) and finally read The Hunger Games (which was surprisingly fantastic).I am still reading The Fixer Upper which is dragging a bit and am reading Island in the Stream slowly as it is just so delicious.
I also set up my contest for The Girl who Played with Fire which you should check out if you love mysteries. I just need for ideal mystery location for an entry.
I managed to keep up, although nothing more, with my blog posts for the week and while I didn’t leave my beach chair for the lively debate, really enjoyed watching the discussion of what constitutes a “serious” book.
All in all, a great vacation both in literature an otherwise.

I have a beach chair story up today as well. And had the same feelings about Prep. Perceptive but the subject matter could not carry a whole book for me. Light and entertaining but I found my mind wandering. Happy reading (and sleeping in your own bed)!
Hunger Games was good, surprisingly good, but the idea of it has been done and done and done. I’m wanting to read something that just wows me. Completely.
It has but I thought some of the cultural analysis especially the commentary on war and class struck a different chord than usual. I’m not sure if what I like about the book will hold up for the second. It seems to me like a sequel to The Giver or Illusions or something.
My husband always says that we’ll need a vacation from our vacation. 🙂
Vacations are wonderful, but I’m always glad to come back home, too! Sounds like some good reading!

I agree about Prep, somewhat disappointing. It’s on many high school summer reading lists and I really don’t know why.

that’s so weird that they are requiring it as reading. Not that it’s bad but it’s just a book. I didn’t find that it held any deeper message and the further I get from it the less it rings positively for me. Oh well, maybe teens like it and if they’ll read it, that’s a good thing?
I didn;t get quite as much read on my vacation as I would have liked.
